Kick off the irie vibes on Friday 4/17 for the celebration of all patriarchy-destroyers with the official debut of Mundo Reggae's Pretty Gyal Posse; an all-women's roots reggae freestyle coalition featuring Rexie, Maryanne Ito, Miss Lulu, and myself back up by Father Pslams' All-Star Band. Plus more special guests and heavy-hitting women from the island reggae music scene.

Fire On The Bayou - The Meters (1975)

I was only familiar with the title track of this record which shockingly is not even one of their biggest hits. I've been diving deep into The Meters' discography because it is absolutley mandatory to have this band in the upcoming funk episode for BBR. My top three tracks are "Fire On The Bayou", "You're A Friend Of Mine", and "Middle Of The Road". Guitar solos sit on a pedestal from start to finish. This record highlights the best of The Meters' sounds, "tight melodic grooves and syncopated New Orleans 'second line' rhythms under highly charged guitar and keyboard riffing". "They All Ask'd For You" and "Mardi Gras Mambo"; two more traditional sounds of NOLA. Some funky funk informed by Dixieland style jazz and mardi gras spirit. This is the type of record meant to be played by a live band.
