Contracts:
Tips on applying contracts IRL

These contracts are templates that come from Music Law: how to run your band's business by musician and lawyer, Richard Stims. They are great documents to use as is or tailor to your needs. Some of the contracts have short versions that may be appropriate for more casual arrangements. For example, I might use the short version of the Band Partnership Contract for a residency at a local bar that wants to hire me for First Fridays. The long version of the Band Partnership Contract might fit better for a situation like a wedding or corporate band booking.

Yes, you should still use contracts for one-off gigs. If you want to be compensated, you should be using a contract.

Contracts protect the artist and the venue/label. Both parties should want to establish an agreement in a fair deal.
